Four class workshop taught by Lacey Lewis at InterUrban ArtHouse, 8001 Conser Street Suite 290, Overland Park, Kansas 66204

Class times: 6pm – 8pm, Tuesdays in April (April 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th)
Fee: $140 per person

In this class, we will study the major muscles and bones that most affect the surface of the human form. In addition to learning about the overall structure of the figure, students will learn about important bones and muscles, and most importantly will learn how to study anatomy and find it evident in the live figure.

We will study a few parts of the anatomy at a time, learning what the function of each particular muscle or bone is and why it's an important feature in figure drawing. We will spend part of each class creating anatomical diagrams before we move on to studies of the figure in action.

Upon completion of this class, students will have a better understanding of the structure and function of the human figure and will have the tools to continue more in depth self-study moving forward. This will lead to more informed and better proportioned life drawings and will greatly improve drawings done from imagination.

Pen & Ink Figure Drawing Workshop

This all day workshop will explore fun ways to use pen and ink in figure drawing. Techniques will range from more traditional methods that echo the old masters to more expressive techniques. Work will all be done from the live model with a variety of pose lengths.

Class is $125 and will meet from 10am-4:30pm on Sunday, September 20th.

Supply List:

  • Regular pencil
  • Pen Nib Holder and #513EF Globe Nib
  • Calligraphy Ink (I recommend Winsor&Newton Calligraphy Ink in Sepia)
  • Tube of sepia or burnt umber watercolor
  • Small dish or watercolor palette
  • Round watercolor brush(es), approx size #6
  • Multi-colored pens. Either purchase a set of colored pens, or choose a few colors you like. Try for 3 pens with different values (one light, one medium, and one dark) that are either the same hue or that coordinate and you feel the colors look nice together. I recommend felt tip pens, but you could use ballpoint pens or even markers.
  • Colored pencils. Same as above, either purchase a set or a few different values of colors you like.
  • A few sheets of Mi Tientes paper in whites, creams, etc.
